Cape Town City exits continue amid relegation battle

While 31-year-old Gonzalez joined the Citizens in 2022 and went on to make 103 appearances, scoring 16 goals and creating nine, Soukhouna only joined City at the start of last season. He featured in 27 games, weighing in with four goals.

City were most recently in action in the Premier Soccer League play-offs, where they were held to a goalless draw in their opening clash with Orbit College.

The club have now reportedly parted with four players since the completion of their regular season campaign, including Kamohelo Mokotjo, Edson Sithole and Miguel Iglesias.

When asked about the most recent departures. City interim coach Diogo Peral explained he is more concerned about a number of suspensions than the players on their way out of the club.

He said on iDiski Times: "Those guys listen, it becomes difficult now, it becomes difficult to plan for next season, not knowing exactly where you’re going to be.

"But more than the guys leaving, [we missed] the guys that were suspended. So we had to change the entire back line."

Reflecting on the draw to the Motsepe Foundation side, the coach added: "We play a different formation, and that's more due to the guys that got suspended. We've got the left-back is gone, we've got Lorenzo suspended. We've got the holding midfielder (out), so that changes your entire defence.

"So still at home, you want to do better than this. You want to get three points."

City are next in action against Casric Stars at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium on Wednesday.
