Cedric Kaze admits Kaizer Chiefs were below par despite victory over Durban City

Amakhosi entered the fixture buoyed by their recent CAF Confederation Cup success, but their domestic struggles nearly continued as they flirted with a fifth consecutive league draw.

However, late tactical changes paid off for the technical team. Second-half substitutes Gaston Sirino and Flavio Da Silva combined beautifully, with the latter heading home the decisive goal that secured maximum points.

Speaking after the game on SuperSport TV, Kaze admitted fatigue was a major factor, following a demanding continental schedule.

"Sunday took a lot out of us — mentally and physically. We were clearly not at our best tonight, but that's football. In the league, it's a marathon," said the Chiefs coach.

"But have to find ways to win even when your performance isn't convincing."

The Zimbabwean tactician reflected on earlier frustrations where Chiefs dominated games but failed to convert chances into wins.

"A few weeks ago, we had games with 70% possession and over 20 shots on target, yet we didn't win," he recalled.

"Sometimes, you need matches like this — where things don't flow, but you still find a way to get the three points."

Kaze was also full of praise for match-winner Da Silva, who returned from injury to make an instant impact.

"We've always known that Silva is a natural box striker. He's always alert in those areas, waiting for rebounds and crosses," he added. "Unfortunately, injuries have limited his minutes, but he's a player we have complete faith in — and tonight he proved why."

Despite not being at their fluent best, the victory was a welcome boost for Chiefs, who will now look to build momentum and rediscover their rhythm as the season progresses.
