Chanka Zimba targeting maximum points for Zambia after proud recall

After missing out on three successive AFCON from 2017 to 2021, the 2012 Champions failed to make it out of the group stage at the last two editions of the competition.

They have been drawn in Group I in AFCON qualifiers ahead of the upcoming tournament to be held in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from 19 June to 17 July 2027, alongside Algeria, Togo and Burundi.

Speaking after his recent recall to the national team, the Inverness frontman expressed his determination to help his team reach the next continental showpiece.

"I'm very proud. The last time was good and to be called again, I feel very happy. To represent my country is a big thing for me. I'm very happy to be here," Zimba said on ZamFoot.

"We have some important games to come. We are here in Algeria to do our best, we want to win and at home against Togo, we are aiming to win as well.

"They (Algeria) have good players, we also have good players. We need to find a formula to work together and get the best results and I believe we can do that," said Zimba.

Zambia face Algeria away on Friday before hosting Togo at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on 29 September.
