Chelsea earns red carpet moment with 2-0 win over LA Galaxy

The  Group D clash marked the first-ever encounter between English and American teams in the competition.

As expected, Chelsea dominated early on, confining LA Galaxy to their own half. Despite their control, the Blues struggled to break through, with Noni Madueke's left-footed shot thwarted by Hugo Lloris' sharp save. Growing frustration was evident when Cole Palmer's long-range effort sailed onto the net's roof, reflecting Chelsea's early challenges.

However, Chelsea's quality shone through just before halftime. Pedro Neto broke free, jinked past a defender and rifled a shot past Lloris at the near post.

LA Galaxy responded at the break by bringing on David Martínez, who nearly equalised with a curling shot that narrowly missed the target.

The second half saw the Americans show more intent, but Chelsea quickly reasserted their threat. Nicolas Jackson's header was cleared off the line by Timothy Tillman, while at the other end, Denis Bouanga mirrored Neto's earlier move, only to be denied by Robert Sanchez's block. Chelsea sealed the win 10 minutes from time when debutant Liam Delap delivered a precise cross, which Enzo Fernandez drilled into the corner.

Martinez almost pulled one back for LA Galaxy late on, but Sanchez stood firm. Neto struck the crossbar in the final moment, but Chelsea's statement win solidified their status as Group D favourites.
