Borussia Dortmund manager Niko Kovac signs new contract until 2027
Borussia Dortmund have officially extended head coach Niko Kovac's contract by one year, keeping him at the club until June 2027.
The 21-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at the Bundesliga club, making 17 appearances and scoring once.
Chukwuemeka, who has represented England at various youth levels from U18 to U20, originally joined Chelsea from Aston Villa in 2022 for 20 million pounds. He now makes a permanent switch to Germany in a deal that could rise to 24 million pounds.
"It feels really good to now be an integral part of BVB," said Chukwuemeka. "I've gotten to know this club, the coach, my teammates, and the fans over the past few months, and I'm just happy that Borussia Dortmund is now my new footballing home. I will give everything I can to ensure that we achieve our goals as a team."
In addition to Chukwuemeka's transfer, Chelsea defender Aaron Anselmino is also set to join Dortmund on a season-long loan, with the 19-year-old already in Germany to finalize the move.
The deal adds to Chelsea's efforts to generate income through player sales. The club has now brought in over 270 million pounds from outgoing transfers - nearly offsetting the 277 million pounds spent on new signings. UEFA has stipulated that Chelsea must maintain a positive transfer balance during this window to register new signings for the Champions League, following a 26.7 million pounds fine for breaching financial regulations and exceeding wage-to-income ratios.
Several other Chelsea players, including Raheem Sterling, Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Tyrique George, and Ben Chilwell, have been linked with possible moves before Monday's transfer deadline. Meanwhile, Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho and RB Leipzig's Xavi Simons have been reported as potential incomings.
