Chelsea star Romeo Lavia impresses France boss Zidane despite Belgium's defeat

Lavia was involved in all four of Belgium's matches during the international break, starting both losses against France and featuring for 85 and 87 minutes respectively. He also appeared from the bench in victories over Italy and Turkey.

His most notable contribution came against France, when he produced an outstanding assist to put Belgium ahead. Receiving the ball deep inside his own half, Lavia threaded a pass through the French defence to release Dodi Lukebakio, eliminating seven opposition players in the process.

Belgium were unable to protect their advantage, with France scoring four times after the interval following a strong start to the second half.

"I didn't watch his individual performance because I was keeping an eye on my own players, but I really liked his pass," France head coach Zidane said when asked about Lavia's assist.

"I watched it again in the changing room at half-time, during the analysis. He's a quality player. But he's not the only one in the Belgian team.

"There are plenty of them, even amongst those who came on as substitutes. They'll always cause us problems when we face them again. We needed to show a reaction to win, and it's good that we did."
