Ex Cape Town City midfielder Kamohelo Mokotjo attracting interest, says agent
Former Cape Town City FC midfielder Kamohelo Mokotjo has attracted interest from "outside of South Africa", says the player's agent.
The 16-year-old Amajimbos star made a notable impact off the bench, coming on at half-time for veteran midfielder Thulani Serero and immediately injecting energy and flair into a match that had largely lacked attacking spark. His most dangerous moment came when a powerful effort rattled the crossbar, underlining the attacking threat he poses even in brief cameos.
But while fans and pundits are already talking up his future, City head coach Peral is urging caution.
"We know what Emile can do," Peral told iDiski Times after the match.
"If we could get the 20 or 25 minutes he gives us at that intensity over a full 90, he'd be starting every game. But right now, physically, he's not ready for that."
Witbooi has emerged as one of the most promising talents in South African football, combining close control with fearless attacking instincts. However, Peral emphasized that managing his development responsibly is crucial to ensuring long-term success.
"He's a really, really talented kid. You saw the difference he made in the time he was on the pitch. But you can't expect a 16-year-old to keep up with the physical demands of senior football for an entire game - not yet," said the Citizens mentor.
Peral did express some frustration that his team didn't utilize Witbooi more effectively during his time on the field.
"Every time he gets the ball, something happens," he said. "We need to get him the ball more, and higher up the pitch. He's definitely one for the future."
With his technical ability and composure beyond his years, Witbooi looks set to play a larger role in the City squad going forward. But for now, Peral and his technical team are taking a long-term view-building his fitness, gradually increasing his minutes, and ensuring the teenager's transition to senior football is sustainable.
"As he gets stronger and his intensity improves, we'll play him more. He's the kind of player who can make a massive difference for us next season," Peral concluded.
Witbooi's rise adds another exciting dimension to Cape Town City's future plans-and he's a name South African fans would do well to remember.
