Durban City eye momentum boost against Stellenbosch

The KwaZulu-Natal outfit have lost just once in their opening four league matches, while their most recent outing ended in a 1-1 draw against newly promoted Kruger United.

That result took Durban City's tally to five points, leaving them eighth on the league standings as they prepare for another demanding test against Stellenbosch.

Coach Khalil Ben Youssef will be hoping his charges can claim all three points, not only to improve their league position but also to build confidence ahead of a historic occasion this weekend.

Durban City are set to make their debut in CAF club competition on Sunday when they host Burundi outfit Rukinzo FC in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup first preliminary round at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

However, Ben Youssef will know that his players cannot afford to look beyond Tuesday's assignment, particularly against a Stellenbosch side that has recently found its scoring boots.

The Maroons have scored six goals in their last two league matches. They played to an entertaining 3-3 draw away to Polokwane City before producing an impressive 3-1 victory over Marumo Gallants in their previous outing.

Gavin Hunt's side have therefore shown signs of gaining momentum despite sitting 11th on the log with four points.

Durban City will be wary of Stellenbosch's attacking threat, but home advantage could give the hosts the edge as they look to climb the table.

For Ben Youssef, securing a victory would provide the perfect platform ahead of the club's much-anticipated CAF debut, while Stellenbosch will be determined to continue their recent resurgence.
