England leapfrog Ireland in World Rugby rankings after heroic win over the All Blacks

George Ford produced a man-of-the-match performance, scoring 13 points including two drop goals as Steve Borthwick’s men beat New Zealand for the first time since 2019.

The result also saw England march to their 10th successive victory, which started with a 26-25 round two victory over France in the Six Nations earlier this year.

It has been rewarded with a move up the World Rugby rankings, moving up to third place, ahead of Ireland. This is despite Ireland’s 46-19 victory over Australia in Dublin, as Andy Farrell’s charges did not earn any rating points for the win.

England earned 1.03 rating points by beating the All Blacks, giving them a 0.24 buffer over the Irish; however, it was not enough to usurp New Zealand in second. Despite losing 1.03 rating points in defence, the All Blacks remained second in the rankings, holding a 1.24 buffer over Borthwick’s side.

France earned 0.12 points for their 34-21 win over Fiji, but that was not enough to regain fourth.

Meanwhile, the Springboks earned no ranking points following their win over Italy in Turin. Rassie Erasmus’ men overcame another early red card to down the Azzurri 32-14. Italy did not lose any ranking points in defeat.

The Azzurri cling on to 10th position despite Georgia putting Canada to the sword in a 38-17 victory. As for Wales, they retained 12th position after beating Japan 24-23.
