Enzo Fernandez header sends Chelsea past Leeds and into FA Cup final

Just days after dismissing Liam Rosenior following a dismal run of results, Chelsea produced a far more composed and disciplined display under interim boss Calum McFarlane. The result sets up a final showdown with Manchester City on May 16, offering the London side a chance to end a run of three consecutive FA Cup final defeats.

The early exchanges at Wembley carried an edge, with both sides creating openings before the breakthrough. Leeds came closest first when Brenden Aaronson raced onto a clever flick from Dominic Calvert-Lewin, only to be denied by a sharp save from Robert Sanchez, who stuck out a leg to keep the scores level.

Chelsea responded almost immediately. Joao Pedro struck the base of the post after being played in by Fernandez, signalling a shift in momentum as the Blues began to assert control.

The decisive moment arrived in the 23rd minute. A loose pass in midfield from Pascal Struijk allowed Chelsea to break quickly, and Pedro Neto delivered a pinpoint cross for Fernandez, who powered a header beyond Lucas Perri to end his side's recent goal drought in emphatic fashion.

Chelsea, far sharper than in their recent defeat to Brighton, controlled the remainder of the first half, with Joao Pedro flashing another effort wide as Leeds struggled to regain their footing.

Daniel Farke responded at the break, introducing Anton Stach, who immediately tested Sanchez with a powerful drive. Leeds improved after the restart, enjoying more possession and pushing Chelsea deeper, but clear-cut chances remained scarce.

Calvert-Lewin squandered their best opportunity of the second half, heading straight at Sanchez from close range, while Stach fired wastefully from distance as frustration began to creep in.

Chelsea, meanwhile, managed the game with growing authority. Fernandez, captaining the side, dictated the tempo, while the back line held firm to repel Leeds' increasingly disjointed attacks. A brief flashpoint on the touchline involving Ethan Ampadu and Stach summed up the rising tension as the match edged toward its conclusion.
