Enzo Maresca acknowledges Man City must 'reset' after Community Shield mauling

In their club's first official game since the departure of Pep Guardiola, Maresca watched on as City conceded a goal after just 25 seconds at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

Further goals by Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard sealed a commanding victory for the defending Premier League winners to lay down an ominous marker ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Speaking after the defeat, Maresca said: "I think a big part of the game was in the first goal we conceded. Unfortunately after 30 seconds we conceded the first one.

"I think the reaction was good, before they scored the second goal we had three or four chances to score and to draw the game. Unfortunately we missed the chances and then after the second goal it became more difficult.

"There was a mistake there, but it's just the beginning."

The former Chelsea mentor acknowledged the improvements that will be required with City's Premier League campaign starting away at Bournemouth on Sunday.

"We have many things to work (on). The season's just started, so there are many things we need to do better, but even when we win games, there are things we need to do better.

Maresca added: "In general, I'm always concerned - even when we win games. We have just started. This is the beginning. We have many things to do better.

"Now we will try to reset, analyse the game and think from Tuesday about the next game."
