Enzo Maresca optimistic about what he's seen from Chelsea's Marc Guiu

Enzo Maresca optimistic about what he's seen from Chelsea's Marc Guiu

Having left Stamford Bridge in search of better prospects, the 18-year-old found his plans abruptly reversed when he was recalled on deadline day, ending his loan spell at Sunderland.

His return was prompted by a sudden shortage in a position the club had believed was comfortably staffed.

Liam Delap's injury in August left Enzo Maresca short of options, while Nicolas Jackson's move to Munich - and his firm reluctance to return - further stretched Chelsea's attacking depth.

Guiu was brought back to help fill that gap, and Maresca is said to be highly encouraged by the Spaniard's response.

Since rejoining the squad, Guiu has made five appearances in all competitions, including two starts, and has managed one goal.

Though his minutes have been limited, his influence has been noticeable, most strikingly in the victory over Nottingham Forest.

Introduced with the match finely poised, he helped alter Chelsea's playstyle and inject much-needed energy into the attack, contributing to the eventual 3-0 win.

The episode underlines how quickly circumstances can shift in a Premier League season. What began as a difficult end to the summer for Guiu has evolved into a valuable opportunity.

With Maresca reportedly impressed and Chelsea still navigating injuries and departures, the young forward may find himself with further chances to stake his claim in the coming weeks.
