Norwegian striker Sebastian Pedersen says he jumped at the opportunity to move to South Africa and join Betway Premiership Champions Orlando Pirates.
Eric Tinkler begins new chapter with Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko
The 55-year-old's appointment was confirmed on Friday, ending weeks of speculation linking him with the record Ghana Premier League champions.
Tinkler arrives at Kotoko after a brief spell away from coaching following his departure from Sekhukhune United in April. His exit came after a disappointing run of results during the second half of the season, despite guiding the Limpopo outfit into contention for a top-four finish earlier in the campaign.
The experienced tactician has built an impressive coaching resume across South African football, having managed Orlando Pirates, Cape Town City, SuperSport United, Chippa United, Maritzburg United and Sekhukhune United. He also enjoyed two separate spells at Cape Town City.
Among his notable achievements are winning the Telkom Knockout with Cape Town City in the 2016/17 season and lifting the MTN8 trophy with SuperSport United a year later.
Tinkler also guided Orlando Pirates to the 2015 CAF Confederation Cup final, where they finished runners-up after a 2-1 aggregate defeat to Tunisia's Etoile du Sahel.
His latest assignment will see him tasked with restoring Asante Kotoko to the summit of Ghanaian football. Known as The Porcupine Warriors, the Kumasi-based club are Ghana's most successful side with a record 25 league titles.
However, they have not won the Ghana Premier League since the 2021/22 season and endured a disappointing 10th-place finish in the previous campaign.
Tinkler now joins the growing list of South African coaches taking their expertise abroad like Fadlu Davids, Rulani Mokwena and Manqoba Mngqithi.
The former Bafana Bafana midfielder will hope his wealth of PSL experience can help revive Kotoko's fortunes and return one of Africa's most historic clubs to championship-winning ways.
