Eric Tinkler set for first coaching job abroad with Asante Kotoko

According to Ghanasoccernet, Tinkler is expected to be appointed by the Kumasi-based club following the departure of Abdul Karim Zito in March.

Since then, Prince Yaw Owusu and Hamza Obeng have taken charge of the team on an interim basis while the club searched for a permanent replacement.

Kotoko recently appointed former Netherlands international Stanley Menzo as Director of Football, with one of his first priorities being the recruitment of a new head coach to lead the club into the 2026/27 season.

Tinkler arrives with vast coaching experience, having managed several Premier Soccer League clubs, including the Buccaneers, Cape Town City, SuperSport United, Chippa United, Maritzburg United and, most recently, Sekhukhune United.

The 55-year-old former Bafana Bafana midfielder, who earned 45 international caps, has enjoyed success on the sidelines, winning the Nedbank Cup with Pirates in the 2013/14 season, the Telkom Knockout (League Cup) with Cape Town City in 2016 and the MTN8 with SuperSport United in the 2017/18 campaign.

His last coaching role was with Sekhukhune United after taking in March 2025, where he helped establish the club as a competitive force before leaving in April this year.

Should the deal be finalised, the move to Asante Kotoko would mark the first overseas coaching appointment of Tinkler's career and present him with a fresh challenge at one of Africa's most successful and supported clubs.
