Ex-Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder George Maluleka drags club to PSL DRC

Ex-Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder George Maluleka drags club to PSL DRC

This after repeated attempts to settle the matter with Motsepe Foundation Championship side Kruger United failed.

Maluleka joined Kruger United at the start of last season following the expiry of his contract with AmaZulu FC.

However, the former Mamelodi Sundowns star was unable to complete the campaign due to the club's alleged failure to honour salary commitments. His case is now part of a broader payment crisis at the club, with several other players said to be in the same position.

The South African Football Players Union (SAFPU) has stepped in to assist Maluleka, popularly known as Mido, and has now placed the case before the PSL's DRC, hoping the League's disciplinary wing will enforce a resolution.

SAFPU General Secretary Nhlanhla Shabalala confirmed the escalation of the matter after efforts to engage the club informally led nowhere and says Union always prefers dialogue over disciplinary action, as DRC rulings can financially strain clubs and affect players who remain on the payroll.

"We have tried to resolve the matter with the club, but with no success. It's not only George Maluleka, but also six other players who are owed money by the same club," Shabalala told KickOff.com.

"We try to establish working relationships to resolve issues, but it's not working out," he added.

Shabalala, who previously played alongside Maluleka at Ajax Cape Town, said SAFPU continues to monitor other player-related disputes across the League. One such case involves Lesedi Kapinga, who is reported to have been demoted to Sekhukhune United's DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) side after allegedly refusing to sign a termination letter.

"We saw the reports and reached out to Kapinga. He promised to come back to us. At this moment, we cannot assist until the player confirms the allegations and officially seeks our help," he said.
