Florentino Perez teases major Real Madrid signing ahead of crunch presidential election

Club members will vote on Sunday in Madrid's first contested election in two decades, with the 79-year-old incumbent facing businessman Enrique Riquelme, 37, after running unopposed in the previous five electoral cycles.

Transfers have become a central theme of the campaign. While Riquelme has claimed he already has agreements in place for two unnamed signings, including a Spain international, Perez has relied on his long-standing reputation for bringing elite talent to the Santiago Bernabeu.

"Everyone knows what my sporting project is: to have the best players and keep winning," Perez told El Espanol. "This Thursday I will announce Real Madrid's first major signing for next season."

The veteran president pointed to his record during more than two decades at the helm, insisting supporters can expect more high-profile additions if he remains in charge.

"People know me. I've always generated excitement during my years as president. Those who know me know that the best players will be at Real Madrid and that we'll win a Champions League title," he said.

The Real Madrid president also hinted that clarity over the club's managerial situation is imminent. Perez declined to confirm reports that Jose Mourinho is set for a sensational return to the Bernabeu but indicated an announcement would be made soon.

"We'll have more names before Sunday, don't worry," Perez said. "Soon I'll announce who Real Madrid's new coach will be."
