The Panthers lost all three of their AFCON Group F encounters, going down 1-0 to Cameroon, 3-2 to Mozambique and 3-2 to the Ivory Coast.
Aubameyang started the tournament carrying an iujury but played 57 minutes of the opening game and the full 90 against Mozambique where he scored Gabon's opener.
The Marseille striker then left camp ahead of defeat to Ivory Coast in order to receive treatment to his thigh, that left him unavailable for their last group game.
Gabon's acting sports minister Simplice-Desire Mamboula announced the news on terrestial television, saying: “Given the Panthers’ disgraceful performance at the Africa Cup of Nations, the government has decided to dissolve the coaching staff, suspend the national team until further notice, and exclude players Bruno Ecuele Manga and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang."
Aubameyang responded on social media, posting: “I think the team's problems are much deeper than the individual I am.”
