Gavin Hunt's tenure at Durban City ends by mutual agreement

Gavin Hunt's tenure at Durban City ends by mutual agreement

The decision brings an end to Hunt's short tenure at the newly promoted Betway Premiership side, only months after their return to the top flight.

According to the club, the move follows a thorough internal review assessing the team's performances, long-term objectives and overall direction.

"This was a decision reached amicably in the best interests of the Club. We thank Gavin for his dedication and service during his time with us and wish him every success in the next chapter of his career," said club chairman Farook Kadodia.

"The Board believes a new direction is necessary to achieve our performance goals."

While Durban City have produced notable moments of competitiveness this season, inconsistency has plagued their progress. With the campaign nearing its halfway point, the board concluded that a change in leadership was necessary to stabilise results before the upcoming AFCON break.

Hunt, a four-time league champion, was initially appointed to provide structure and top-flight experience as the club sought to adapt to the demands of Premiership football.

Despite guiding the team to a respectable eighth place on the table, the hierarchy felt decisive action was needed to protect the momentum of their maiden season back in the elite division.

Assistant coach Pitso Dladla has been handed the reins on an interim basis and will oversee the side's midweek clash against Orbit College.

The timing of the transition, the club noted, affords Dladla a brief but valuable window to steady the squad ahead of domestic football pausing for the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
