Group leaders Malawi won't settle for a draw with Zambia, insists head coach Lovemore Fazili

The Scorchers top Group C with wins over Nigeria and Egypt and need just a point to qualify for the quarterfinals.

Zambia though could still qualify for the knockout round and will be eager to overtake Nigeria, with both teams on three points from two games.

Speaking ahead of the game, a determined Malawi boss said on ZamFoot: We have been preparing very well and the players are responding very well. It looks like everybody wants to play, but in football there are only 11 players starts the game, so we will try to choose the best 11 to start the game.

“We are focused on winning the game, not thinking about a draw. First of all, we want to win and keep a clean sheet. A draw will be fine if things do not go as expected, but our aim is to win the game."

Copper Queens head coach Nora Hauptle, meanwhile, expects a tough game against an in-form Malawi side.

Her team beat Egypt 6-0 and lost 1-0 to Nigeria.

“This squad is as equal to us. They have top players at club level, and they have players abroad; they also have good players in the squad behind the top players. So it’s a very similar team in the picture to our team," Hauptle said.

“We know about their strength. We also played against each other a lot, so players know each other. Tactic-wise, there are not so many secrets, I would say, in this game, but again, we bounce back to us."
