Harry Kane double hands Bayern Munich victory over Osnabrueck in DFB-Pokal Cup

The holders fell behind after just five minutes when Robin Meissner produced a superb dipping strike from outside the penalty area, giving the home supporters hope of a major cup upset.

But Bayern responded quickly, with Kane firing home the rebound to bring the visitors level. Tom Bischof then scored in similar fashion six minutes later as Bayern turned the match around and took control.

Kane admitted Bayern had been tested by Osnabrueck's fast start and the atmosphere inside the stadium.

"It's never easy at an away ground with a very good atmosphere," Kane said.

"They started the game with an amazing goal, and we had to stay calm.

"I'm happy we got the win."

Michael Olise extended Bayern's lead in the 73rd minute before Kane completed the scoring from the penalty spot four minutes from time.

The England captain's latest double took his remarkable Bayern record to 148 goals in 150 appearances in all competitions since joining the German champions from Tottenham in 2023.

Bayern, who have won the German Cup 21 times, have not been knocked out in the first round since 1994 and once again avoided an early upset despite Osnabrueck's impressive opening.

Elsewhere in the competition, Borussia Dortmund cruised to a 5-0 win over fifth-division amateur side HEBC in Hamburg on Tuesday.

Bayern now turn their attention back to the Bundesliga, with an away match against Schalke 04 at the Arena AufSchalke in Gelsenkirchen on Saturday.
