Harry Kane hits back at Michael Owen as Bayern Munich form 'speaks for Itself'

Owen, the former England striker, had questioned the significance of winning the Bundesliga, claiming there was "no great achievement" in lifting the German title. But ahead of England’s World Cup qualifier against Serbia, Kane defended his choice and underlined the benefits of his move.

"I heard it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion," Kane said. "I’ve spent a bit of time with him but don’t know him well. Obviously, he is a Premier League great and an England great as well so I’ll respect him as a person.

"But ultimately, everyone’s career is different, everyone’s decisions and motivations are different."

Kane, who left Tottenham Hotspur in 2023, explained that the move was about testing himself on the biggest stage. "I know he was insinuating I went just for the trophy but it was to be at the highest level for as long as possible. I’m really happy in that sense, playing big games, title runs, Champions League matches, the Club World Cup quarter-final.

"I feel I’m improving as a player, pushing my limits in terms of goalscoring and just improving overall."

Since joining Bayern, Kane has scored 91 goals in 100 appearances, a record that has silenced many doubters. Bayern have continued to dominate domestically and remain contenders in Europe, with Kane leading the line.

Thomas Tuchel, who was in charge when Kane first arrived, described him as "the perfect professional" and praised his seamless transition into German football. Bayern’s current coach, Vincent Kompany, has also highlighted Kane’s leadership qualities, calling him "a player who sets the standard every day."

Kane added: "It’s hard not to hear things these days, but the decisions are best for me and I’m very happy at Bayern Munich now."

With England facing crucial qualifiers and Bayern targeting another Champions League run, Kane’s decision to swap North London for Munich appears to be paying off.
