IPL: Paras Mhambrey admits Mumbai Indians should've done better despite tough pitch

They were bowled out for 147 for eight and lost by four wickets.

He said the match was effectively shaped by a PowerPlay collapse, with Mumbai Indians losing four wickets for just 46 runs, which left them under severe pressure for the remainder of the innings.

Mhambrey added that, in hindsight, the side should have scored more runs given the conditions on a challenging surface, suggesting the total fell short of par.

Addressing fielding concerns, he described dropped catches as "part and parcel of the game", while refusing to overstate their impact on the result.

Looking ahead, he said the team will turn its attention to their final fixture against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday, emphasising preparation over any external implications regarding the Royals' playoff hopes.

"It wasn't an easy pitch. Not a normal Eden Gardens wicket. It had a spongy bounce. It was just a little bit up and down that made stroke-making a little difficult," said Mhambrey.

"Credit to them that they bowled well. When you lose four wickets in the PowerPlay, it's always difficult to come back. We were some 20-25 runs short on this pitch. We still could have managed 160 [with a partnership]. And that would have been really competitive.

“It's all about partnerships. We lost wickets regularly and it was very difficult for us to construct a partnership.”
