Jacob Ramsey returns to boost Newcastle ahead of Brighton clash

Jacob Ramsey returns to boost Newcastle ahead of Brighton clash

The 24-year-old midfielder, who joined Newcastle from Aston Villa in the summer for around forty million pounds, has been sidelined since suffering an ankle injury against Leeds United on 30 August.

Manager Eddie Howe has confirmed that Ramsey is close to full fitness and could be included in the squad this weekend.

"He's good," Howe said after the recent win over Nottingham Forest. "He's trained for two days, but I didn't want to risk him and potentially set him back again. I wanted to give him the two weeks of the international break to make sure he's ready for the next game."

Ramsey, capable of playing as a No.8 or out wide, was left out of the matchday squad against Forest as a precaution but has now been filmed taking part in "football tennis" with his new teammates during training at Darsley Park.

His brief appearance in the club's social media video sparked excitement among fans, who are eager to see him in action for the first time since his summer switch.

Newcastle's growing injury list has tested their depth early in the campaign, and Ramsey's return comes at a crucial time as the Magpies prepare for two demanding fixtures against Brighton and Benfica. Howe's side are determined to avoid a repeat of their struggles from two seasons ago, when a lack of rotation hurt their performances in Europe.

Speaking after his arrival, Ramsey explained why he chose Newcastle: "As soon as I knew the gaffer was interested, it didn't take long to decide. His track record of developing players, especially those who've gone on to become internationals, speaks for itself.

"Newcastle have such energy and passion, it's a great fit for my game."

Ramsey's availability will be a major boost for Howe as Newcastle look to maintain momentum in both the Premier League and Europe.
