Jamal Musiala steps up recovery as Bayern Munich eye mid-season boost

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder returned to light training on the grass at the club's Sabener Strasse base this week, marking his first appearance on the pitch since suffering a broken fibula and dislocated ankle against Paris Saint-Germain in the FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final on July 5.

Bayern officials have confirmed that Musiala's rehabilitation is progressing well, but they are keen to avoid rushing his comeback. The club's medical team are expected to monitor his workload carefully in the coming months, with hopes of having him available for matches in December.

Manager Vincent Kompany has reiterated that Musiala remains central to Bayern's plans, emphasizing the need for a cautious approach to ensure he returns at full strength without any undue pressure.

Musiala has been one of Bayern's standout players since breaking into the first team in 2020, known for his quick feet, creativity, and ability to unlock defences. His absence has been a blow for the Bundesliga champions, particularly after a summer that saw experienced attackers Leroy Sane depart on a free transfer to Galatasaray, Kingsley Coman move to Al-Nassr, and Thomas Muller leave the club.

Despite those losses, Bayern have adapted impressively. Kompany's side have scored 27 goals in their opening seven Bundesliga matches, with Harry Kane, Luis Diaz, and Michael Olise all in fine form. Serge Gnabry has also flourished in a more central role in Musiala's absence.

Musiala's potential return before the end of the year would be a major lift for Bayern as they push for another league title and prepare for the Champions League knockout stages. The German national team are also monitoring his progress closely ahead of next summer's FIFA World Cup, where Musiala is expected to play a pivotal role.

For now, Bayern are content to let their young star recover at his own pace, but his return could prove decisive in the club's pursuit of silverware this season.
