Jayden Adams' passing sees Mamelodi Sundowns delay pre-season camp

The club confirmed on Sunday that the team did not travel as initially planned after the 25-year-old Bafana Bafana star was found dead in Schotsche Kloof, Cape Town, on Saturday morning.

Adams' sudden passing has sent shockwaves through South African football, with tributes pouring in for the former Stellenbosch FC midfielder.

Sundowns were scheduled to fly to Austria on Saturday as preparations for the new season gathered momentum, but the club understandably decided to delay the trip.

"Given the circumstances, the team did not travel to Austria yesterday (Saturday)," Sundowns media officer Shupi Nkgadima said.

"As it stands, the pre-season has not been cancelled, but the departure has been postponed."

The Brazilians have several friendly matches lined up during their planned stay in Austria as part of their preparations for the upcoming campaign.

Sundowns are scheduled to face Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg on July 18 before taking on Ukrainian side Dynamo Kyiv on July 23.

They are also expected to play Saudi Pro League outfit Al Hilal on July 24 and again on July 26.

It remains unclear when Sundowns will depart for Austria following the postponement, with the club and its players continuing to mourn the loss of Adams.

The midfielder's passing comes at a difficult time for the Tshwane giants, who were preparing to regroup for pre-season following a demanding campaign.

Sundowns are expected to provide further updates regarding their pre-season travel plans in due course.
