Joan Garcia's grand arrival: Barcelona's new keeper eyes glory

The 24-year-old Catalan shot-stopper, previously with rivals Espanyol, joined after Barcelona paid a 25 million euros release clause, plus inflation adjustments, to La Liga.

Garcia sealed his move in a private ceremony at the Spotify Camp Nou offices, posing for photos alongside club president Joan Laporta and close associates.

Speaking to Barcelona's official media, Garcia shared his excitement about the move. "I'm absolutely thrilled. I couldn't wait for this day to come," he said. "My focus now is to keep developing as a goalkeeper, win plenty of silverware, and achieve great things, that's why I'm here.

"Joining such a young, talented squad is incredibly exciting. I know many of the players already, and I'm eager to get started."

The Sallent-born keeper, known for his commanding presence, outlined what he brings to Hansi Flick's side. "I'd describe myself as a brave goalkeeper who loves to support the team," he explained. "I'm quick in goal, sharp with my reflexes, and I aim to dominate in the air."

Garcia also expressed his enthusiasm for playing at the revamped Spotify Camp Nou. "I've seen the model of the new stadium, and it's stunning," he added. "I can't wait to step out there. I'm sure the fans will witness plenty of victories."

Garcia's arrival strengthens Barcelona's goalkeeping options, where he'll compete with Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Inaki Pena. Meanwhile, Wojciech Szczesny remains in talks over a contract extension, with a one-year deal plus an optional extra season still under discussion.

This move signals Barcelona's intent to build a robust, youthful squad, and Garcia's ambition could prove pivotal in their pursuit of domestic and European success.
