Jonathan Tah confident Dayot Upamecano 'will stay' at Bayern Munich

Since joining from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, Tah and Upamecano have formed a strong centre-back partnership that has become central to Bayern's defence.

Tah told Suddeutsche Zeitung that Upamecano appreciates the team and the atmosphere at Bayern. "He has emphasised that many times already. He has been at Bayern for a long time and feels that the coach can offer him something.

"He feels that the team is good, that the atmosphere and the energy are good," Tah said. "But it's a decision he has to make for himself."

Upamecano's current contract runs until June 2026, and negotiations over a long-term extension are ongoing.

Reports suggest the main sticking point is the activation date of a potential release clause, with the player's camp pushing for a clause around sixty-five million euros to become active in 2027, while Bayern prefer a later date. Financial terms are largely agreed, with Bayern offering up to twenty million euros gross annually including bonuses.

Bayern are keen to secure Upamecano before he is free to discuss a pre-contract with other clubs from January 1, 2026. While European giants such as Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly monitored the situation, Real Madrid's interest has waned, making an extension the most likely outcome.

Tah's comments underline the confidence within the Bayern squad that Upamecano will remain at the Allianz Arena, with final details expected to be resolved in the coming days.
