Jorge Jesus changes Ronaldo plan after Portugal's Norway triumph in Nations League

Ronaldo was an unused substitute as Portugal secured a 2-1 victory in Oslo, with Ramos starting in his place and scoring the decisive goal four minutes after half-time.

Jesus stressed that Ramos' goal had not automatically changed his plans for the next match, insisting that his team selection would depend on the tactical demands of each game.

"The fact that Goncalo Ramos scored doesn't justify anything, just as it doesn't justify Felix scoring two goals in the last two games," Jesus told reporters.

"Each game has a strategy, a dynamic, and I have to choose the best players for the game."

Jesus had originally planned to introduce Ronaldo during the second half, but changed his mind as the match developed.

"Cris didn't play today because the game changed my ideas," he said. "I had planned for him to play in the second half, but I didn't think it was the right time to put him on.

"But that doesn't mean he won't play in Denmark. I made four changes today, I'm capable of making four or five in Denmark as well."

Ramos took his opportunity after Jesus selected him to lead the attack, while Joao Felix had earlier put Portugal ahead in the 17th minute.

Norway levelled through Erling Haaland, who scored his 65th international goal in the 51st minute, but a mistake from goalkeeper Orjan Nyland allowed Ramos to restore Portugal's lead three minutes later.

Portugal held on for an important victory and moved to the top of their group.

The result also marked a rare occasion for Ronaldo, who had not been an unused substitute for Portugal since 2008.

Jesus had already shown a willingness to manage Ronaldo's minutes in his first match in charge, when he substituted the veteran forward during the second half against Wales.
