Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid midfield hit by triple Champions League blow

Real Madrid are due to host Inter at the Santiago Bernabeu on September 8, but Mourinho will be unable to call on three midfield options because of suspensions carried over from last season's European campaign.

According to a report by Madrid Universa, Guler and Camavinga will both serve one-match bans after being sent off during Real Madrid's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Bayern Munich.

Guler received his second yellow card after the final whistle following a confrontation with the referee, while Camavinga was dismissed late in the match. Real Madrid lost that game 4-3 and were eliminated from the competition.

Silva's suspension comes from an earlier meeting with Real Madrid. The midfielder was shown a straight red card while playing for Manchester City in the second leg of their last-16 tie after deliberately handling the ball to prevent a goal. Vinicius Junior scored the resulting penalty.

Under UEFA rules, red-card suspensions can be carried into the following season, leaving Mourinho without three important midfielders for the opening Champions League fixture.

The absences leave Federico Valverde as one of the key options in the centre of the pitch, with Mourinho now needing to decide who will play alongside him.

Aurelien Tchouameni's fitness could also influence the decision, although his availability still needs to be confirmed.

Inter's visit will therefore provide an early test of Mourinho's squad depth as Real Madrid begin another Champions League campaign with a weakened midfield.
