Julian Alvarez signals Atletico Madrid exit to "fulfil his dream"

The 26-year-old forward confirmed he had spoken with Atletico officials and believes a transfer would be the best outcome for everyone involved.

"I spoke with people at the club, with those I had to speak with, and the best thing for everyone is a transfer and I want to fulfil my dream," Alvarez said after Argentina's 2-0 World Cup victory over Austria.

The former Manchester City striker also admitted he did not want to hide his intentions, despite insisting the timing was not ideal.

"It's not the time to talk about this, but I also can't hide it. I try to be an honest person," he added.

Alvarez joined Atletico Madrid from Manchester City in 2024 in a deal reported to be worth 95 million euros and quickly became a key part of Diego Simeone's squad. However, speculation over his future has increased after reports of interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris St Germain.

Reports in Spain and Argentina claimed Atletico had rejected a 150 million euro offer from Real Madrid for the World Cup winner, who remains under contract at the club.

Despite making his desire clear, Alvarez said there was still no confirmed timeline for a decision.

"It's not known when it will be resolved," he told reporters.

The striker has been recovering from an ankle injury and has started Argentina's World Cup campaign as a substitute in both matches.
