Kaizer Chiefs take aim at Polokwane City with second place up for grabs

Kaizer Chiefs take aim at Polokwane City with second place up for grabs

Fernando da Cruz's side have started the new season well with 11 points from their opening five games and remain unbeaten in the Betway Premiership.

They come into this clash after seeing off Siwelele 3-2, and with Orlando Pirates not playing in the league until Thursday, Amakhosi could leapfrog their rivals with a win against the 14th placed Rise and Shine.

Bayano Moloto's charges have just one win from games, alongside three draws and one defeat.

They last drew 2-2 with Marumo Gallants, who have since sacked for Polokwane City mentor Phuti Mohafe.

Speaking after the win over Siwelele, Da Cruz called for a "killer instinct" up front from his players.

"In the first half, we were very good in possession, and we created a lot of chances, but we didn’t have the killer instinct inside the box,” Da Cruz said on SuperSport.

"We scored our second goal, but directly afterwards, Siwelele scored their first. And we were worried after that, and the defensive part was not good.

"The first step is to do our match analysis and correct the tactical side but it's not only that. It also depends on the spirit and mentality of the players on the field."

Amakhosi winger Dillan Solomons added in the Citizen: "We have been working hard this week on exposing their weaknesses, and on how to control the game and frustrate them.

"We know they are a transitional team and we need to keep the ball and make sure they don't get those transitions.

"They are also a physical team and we need to go with the mindset that they will be physical and we need to impose ourselves. I think we are ready for the challenge and hopefully we can come back with the result."
