Kenya boss Benni McCarthy scoops Coach of the Month award

The award is voted on by the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) and comes on the back of the Harambee Stars' impressive showing at the recently concluded African Nations Championship where they made it to the quarter-finals - for the first time in their history.

Kenya drew 1-1 with Madagascar in their last eight tie and ultimately lost 4-3 on penalties.

McCarthy's side had earlier topped their group with 10 points, beating tournament winners Morocco, alongside wins over the DR Congo and Zambia alongside a draw with Angola.

The former Cape Town City, AmaZulu and Manchester United coach won the award ahead of Strathmore Leos (Rugby 7s) coach William Ojal, national volleyball team coach Geoffrey Omondi, women's U20 volleyball coach Jackline Basara and St Peter's Boys High coach Nelson Jaika.
