Kylian Mbappe sues former club PSG for 263 million euros over contract dispute

Kylian Mbappe sues former club PSG for 263 million euros over contract dispute

Mbappe, 26, who joined Real Madrid last year on a free transfer, initially lodged a complaint in June regarding how PSG handled him at the start of the 2023–24 season. He claims he was sidelined by the Qatari-owned club and made to train with players the club was looking to offload after he refused to sign a contract extension.

PSG has countersued Mbappe, seeking 240 million euros in damages. The club bases its claim on a failed 300 million euros transfer to Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal, which the player declined in 2023.

Mbappe was excluded from PSG's 2023 pre-season tour of Asia and missed the first match of that season but was later reinstated after discussions with the club. His legal team argues that such treatment is part of a broader pattern affecting professional footballers in France, prompting a complaint from the French players' union last year.

During his seven seasons with PSG, Mbappe scored 256 goals in 308 appearances and won multiple domestic trophies. After his departure, PSG secured their first UEFA Champions League title. At Real Madrid, Mbappe reportedly earns an annual salary of 30 million euros.

The labour tribunal has yet to set a date for its ruling.
