Lautaro Martinez back to full fitness as Inter eye Bologna clash

Martinez scored the only goal in Inter's 1‑0 win at Atalanta on Sunday, marking his fourth consecutive Serie A match with a goal for the first time since autumn 2021. His strike lifted Inter back to the top of the table by one point over AC Milan and put him at the top of the league scoring charts with nine goals.

"I ended last season with a lot of pain in my flexor and it affected me ahead of an important game," Martinez said.

"I kept going during the Club World Cup and international duty with a very short break, but now I feel good and ready to keep improving."

Martinez described the win over Atalanta as a vital three points against a strong opponent. "Atalanta are a very competitive side in Serie A and Europe. They played aggressively, and we prepared well. I'm happy for the team and the fans."

The goal came midway through the second half after substitute Pio Esposito set him up. Martinez praised the 20‑year‑old's potential for Italian football. "With players like Esposito behind me, I need to raise my level," he said. "He works hard and wants to learn. We all made mistakes at his age, so it's important to give him space to grow without pressure."

Inter now look ahead to the match against Bologna, aiming to continue their fine run of form as the new year begins. Martinez's fitness and consistent scoring could be decisive as Inter target more points at San Siro to strengthen their hold on the top of Serie A.
