Leny Yoro steps in as Ruben Amorim plots key Man Utd changes for Everton clash

United have collected 18 points from their opening 11 league matches, five wins, three draws and three defeats, and sit just one point outside the Champions League positions in seventh place. The team are unbeaten in five, although back-to-back draws at Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur have stalled their momentum.

Amorim said after the Forest stalemate that his squad "paid the price" for losing control but urged them to "focus on the good" while overcoming setbacks like multiple in-game withdrawals.

The first likely change is in central defence, where Harry Maguire is a major doubt. The England defender suffered a knock against Spurs and was withdrawn during the second half. He has been undergoing assessment during the international break, but United medical staff have not yet cleared him to resume full training, listing him as doubtful.

Leny Yoro, who replaced Maguire in north London, is expected to step back into the starting XI. The French teenager featured from the outset against Brighton and Nottingham Forest earlier this month and is rated highly inside the club. Amorim has said Yoro "can be one of the best centre-backs in the world" for how he reads the game with impressive maturity.

If selected, Yoro would operate on the right side of the back three, with Matthijs de Ligt likely to shift into the central role. Luke Shaw, who impressed on the left of the defence before the break, is expected to keep his place ahead of Lisandro Martinez.

The Argentine has trained consistently for both club and country after a long ACL lay-off, but Amorim is prepared to integrate him cautiously, starting with appearances from the bench given his projected return in late November.

Further forward, rotation is anticipated amid a packed schedule. Noussair Mazraoui could drop to the bench, allowing Mason Mount to return after being sidelined by a recent knock. Amad Diallo filled the right number ten position against Spurs before being moved to right wing-back, and the Ivorian may continue in that hybrid role against Everton despite exposing some tactical limitations in Amorim's system.

Amorim has praised Mount's pressing and off-the-ball work, noting his potential to provide the balance and energy needed in the No. 10 spots.

With Benjamin Sesko still recovering from an injury concern that has left Amorim "worried," Matheus Cunha is set to continue as United's makeshift striker. Mount is expected to join the in-form Bryan Mbeumo, who has netted six goals in 12 appearances since his summer move, in the attacking midfield roles as United aim to restart their league campaign with a victory in front of their home supporters.
