Liam Rosenior admits Chelsea must be 'bolder' at Sunday's Emirates battle

Chelsea have lost twice to the Gunners in under two months, including their elimination in the Carabao Cup semi-final earlier this month. In the second leg, the Blues needed a goal to stay in the tie but, despite enjoying long spells of possession, struggled to create clear chances.

Reflecting on that performance, Rosenior was honest in his assessment.

"You are always disappointed to lose out to one of your London rivals in a semi-final of a cup competition," he said. "There were availability issues - not an excuse. With the ball, maybe we could have been more front-footed. In terms of going out to win the game, there was a clear idea that the players carried out very well. We did not get the result we wanted and we want that to change on Sunday."

Chelsea head into the match after back-to-back league draws against Leeds United and Burnley, results that have slowed their momentum. However, Rosenior believes the bigger picture remains positive.

"When I took over we were in eighth. We are now in the race," he said. "We have won four and drawn two. In the two games we have drawn, we were in complete dominance. That is the reality and the facts. It gives me confidence that we can be successful in the short and long term.

"This club should be in the Champions League. Chelsea is a Champions League club. We just have to take it game by game."

Rosenior also praised his opposite number, Mikel Arteta, describing Arsenal as "incredibly well-coached" and effective in every phase - from high pressing to defensive organisation and set-pieces.

Sunday's clash presents another stern examination, but Rosenior's message is clear: Chelsea must show greater attacking intent if they are to lay a glove on the Premier League leaders this time.
