Massimiliano Allegri confirms Luka Modric to join AC Milan after Club World Cup

Modric, who turns 40 in September, is set to leave Real Madrid after 12 decorated seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Croatian international announced in early June that he would not renew his contract with the Spanish giants, prompting widespread speculation about a potential move to Serie A.

Speaking at his first press conference since returning to Milan, Allegri put the rumors to rest.

"He'll arrive in August," the Milan coach told reporters. "He's an extraordinary and important player - there's no need to say more."

Modric will complete his final duties with Real Madrid at the Club World Cup in the United States, where the reigning European champions face Paris Saint-Germain in the semifinals on Wednesday. The final is scheduled for July 13.

The move marks a major statement by Milan, who are looking to reassert themselves at the top of Italian and European football. Modric brings with him a wealth of experience, having won six Champions League titles and the 2018 Ballon d'Or during his time in Madrid.

Allegri, who returns to the Milan dugout after nearly a decade - having previously led the club to the Serie A title in 2010–11 - is expected to build his midfield around Modric's deep-lying creativity and leadership.

AC Milan kick off their 2025–26 campaign with an Italian Cup fixture on August 17, with Modric expected to be in the squad shortly before then.
