Matheus Cunha saves Manchester United blushes with late strike against Leeds

Leeds made an energetic start, but it was the visitors who thought they had struck first when Matheus Cunha produced a stunning volley, only for the effort to be ruled out for offside in the build-up.

Clear-cut chances were scarce in a competitive contest largely fought in midfield, though Leeds went close when Anton Stach's inviting cross from the right was glanced against the far post by the in-form Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The first goalkeeper called into action was Lucas Perri, who produced a superb reflex save to deny Leny Yoro’s header from point-blank range. Cunha and Patrick Dorgu then fired off target as United finished the half strongly, while Leeds' failure to register a shot on target before the break frustrated manager Daniel Farke and the Leeds faithful to no end.

The pattern continued after the restart, with Senne Lammens saving Gabriel Gudmundsson’s near-post effort. The breakthrough finally came when Brenden Aaronson pounced on a defensive lapse by Ayden Heaven and finished clinically, the eighth of his last nine Leeds goals at Elland Road.

United responded immediately, substitute Joshua Zirkzee teeing up Cunha to beat Perri and restore parity. Both sides pushed for a winner late on, with Leeds star Joel Piroe's curling effort clearing the crossbar as the points were shared.
