Michael Carrick confirms Mason Mount back for Man Utd clash with Leeds

Mount had been sidelined since early in Carrick's tenure, but the United boss revealed the England international had spent the last few weeks rebuilding fitness and sharpness.

"It's great to have Mason back," Carrick said. "He's had a couple of weeks building up his rhythm and sharpness, so it's really positive for us."

Carrick also highlighted Mount's tactical value, underlining his ability to operate in multiple roles across midfield and attack.

"I think his versatility is a big strength," he explained. "He can play centrally, in midfield or wide, and he gives us different options. He's a team player, and there's a lot more to come from him. We just need to be patient and give him time to get fully fit."

There was further good news for United, with Lisandro Martinez also back in the squad after a lengthy spell out. However, Carrick admitted he had yet to decide whether the Argentina defender would start.

"He's back training, which is great," Carrick said. "But we won't rush anything. It's important we make the right decision and ensure he's ready."

Carrick also provided updates on two other defenders still working their way back. Matthijs de Ligt remains in rehabilitation and has not yet returned to full training, while Patrick Dorgu is slightly further along in his recovery.

"Matthijs isn't quite back on the grass yet," Carrick explained. "He's still doing gym work and following his rehab programme. Patrick is a bit further ahead, but with injuries, the process can vary. Sometimes it's quick, sometimes it takes longer."
