Michael Carrick hails Kobbie Mainoo but urges caution before Bournemouth trip

Speaking before Friday night's clash, Carrick highlighted Mainoo's impressive form while stressing that tougher tests lie ahead for a team still finding its balance.

United travel to the Vitality Stadium, with Carrick admitting the squad is in "good shape" but facing a tough challenge against an in-form opponent.

"It's a tough game, a tough place to go," Carrick said. "They're on a really good run. We know we'll be in for a game against a well-coached team with good energy."

Carrick also highlighted the importance of balance in his side's approach. "Sometimes it needs to be calm and stable, sometimes it needs to be on edge," he explained. "It's about being measured and getting that balance right."

Much of the focus has been on Kobbie Mainoo, who has impressed since returning to the starting line-up. Carrick believes the young midfielder is only just getting started.

"He's doing really well, but there is so much more to come," Carrick said. "He found his rhythm quickly and his natural flow. His performance at the weekend was really impressive - he did a bit of everything."

Carrick also praised the growing influence of Bruno Fernandes in midfield, as United continue to build consistency.

On team news, there was mixed fortune. Noussair Mazraoui is expected to be available despite illness, but Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martínez and Patrick Dorgu remain sidelined.

Carrick added that Mason Mount is not yet ready to start but could benefit from the upcoming break. "It's brilliant to have him back around the group," he said.

Looking ahead, Carrick stressed flexibility will be key during a hectic period. "You have to manage each individual," he said. "Some need to maintain their level, others need more game time. It's about coming through it in good shape."
