Mike Tullberg in charge when Dortmund face Shakhtar in Champions League

Mike Tullberg in charge when Dortmund face Shakhtar in Champions League

This decision comes on the heels of Nuri Sahin's dismissal as head coach.

Tullberg, previously in charge of Dortmund's U19 squad, took over for the Bundesliga clash against Werder Bremen over the weekend.

Despite being reduced to 10 men early on with Nico Schlotterbeck's red card, Dortmund managed to secure a 2-0 lead before settling for a 2-2 draw.

Lars Ricken, Dortmund's managing director for sport, praised Tullberg's performance, stating, "He'll also be sitting on the bench on Wednesday, that was clear beforehand. But I told him: 'The Bremen game, that's what it's all about.' Because I wanted Mike Tullberg 100 percent and that's what I got. That's what we all got."

Ricken also emphasized there is no hurry in finding a permanent successor to Sahin, highlighting the current stability under Tullberg.

"We are taking the time we need. I think we are in an excellent position at the moment with Mike because he can get through to the players," Ricken explained.

For his part, Tullberg has expressed his commitment to the club's success rather than personal accolades.

"It's always about helping the club. In the first few years it was about developing players and winning games, but now it's about winning games and stabilizing the team," he said.

Dortmund fans and the football community will be watching closely as Tullberg aims to steer the team to success in the Champions League, showcasing his tactical acumen and leadership on the European stage.
