Mikel Arteta: Arsenal kind of won the title twice, if you think about our points

Despite strong campaigns in recent years, Arsenal have now finished second for the third consecutive season. They amassed 84 points in 2022-23 and 89 in 2023-24, but both seasons ended in disappointment.

This time, they trail Liverpool by 15 points, with the champions having secured the 2024-25 title with just 82 points - fewer than Arsenal achieved in either of the past two seasons.

"We are going to try and do it this season but winning trophies is about being in the right moment in the right place," said Arteta.

"Liverpool have won the title with less points than we have in the last two seasons. So for the past two seasons we have two Premier League (titles).

"You have to be in the right moment in the right place. Hopefully we will be in the right place in the right moment in Paris tomorrow and earn that right to be in the (Champions League) final."

Liverpool confirmed their status as champions with a resounding 5-1 win over Tottenham on 27 April, putting them out of reach with three games still to play. Arne Slot's men could finish the season with a maximum of 91 points, should they win their remaining matches.

The Reds face Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday, in what will now be a celebratory home fixture. They then travel to Brighton before closing the campaign against Crystal Palace - FA Cup finalists - on the final day.

Arsenal, meanwhile, will shift their focus to the Champions League, their only remaining route to silverware this season.
