The Pharaohs needed extra-time to see off a strong Benin side in their last 16 clash on Monday after Jodel Dossou (83') cancelled out a 69th minute opener from Marwan Attia.
Yasser Ibrahim (97') and Salah (120+4') were both on target in the additional minutes, to set up a quarter-final clash with one of Ivory Coast or Burkina Faso.
Egypt are record eight-time AFCON winners but last won the continental title in 2010.
Reflecting on their chances of adding another title, Salah explained that he doesn't expect a young Egypt side to go all the way in Morocco.
He said on Flash Score: "I don't think we are a favourite at all (to win the title).
“We have young players, and most of them play in Egypt. We just fight for our country but everybody gives their best and you could see today."
"The level is quite similar, I told the team yesterday that no side loses by four or five goals. (Benin) have a good team and a good coach. I'm glad we managed to win in the end," the Liverpool striker added.
