Marumo Gallants break silence on Jamil Benouahi's absence
Marumo Gallants have clarified the absence of head coach Jamil Benouahi following his no-show on the bench during their recent fixture against Orbit College.

Nkota completed a reported €1.2 million transfer at the start of the 2025/26 season and has since registered two goals and two assists in 18 league appearances. While he has struggled for consistent game time in recent weeks, the winger remains focused on improving his performances ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking to the Saudi Pro League’s official platforms, Nkota explained that the desire to play abroad is shared by many African footballers.
“As Africans, most of us want to experience football overseas,” he said. “That opportunity came for me, and I was happy to take it.”
The move materialised quickly, with Nkota revealing that both his agent and Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza left the final decision in his hands.
Despite his excitement, the 23-year-old found it difficult to part ways with the club that shaped his professional career.
“It wasn’t easy. Leaving the club where you grow up is always emotional,” Nkota admitted. “Saying goodbye to my teammates and the fans was one of the hardest moments for me.”
Since arriving in Saudi Arabia, Nkota has leaned on experienced teammates, particularly captain Georginio Wijnaldum, who helped him adapt to the demands of a new league.
“He told me it wouldn’t be easy and that I would have to fight for my position,” Nkota said. “That advice has stayed with me.”
Nkota has also acknowledged the challenges of facing seasoned defenders in the league but views it as a valuable learning curve.
On the international front, he faces an uphill battle after being overlooked by Hugo Broos for recent Bafana Bafana fixtures. Still, he remains optimistic about South Africa’s chances on the global stage.
“We want to leave a mark at the World Cup,” Nkota said. “We want people to remember what we achieved.”
