Neal Maupay joins Sevilla on loan from Marseille

The 29-year-old forward, who has struggled for game time this season, will wear the No. 17 shirt for the Andalusian side.

Maupay's journey in football began at OGC Nice, joining their academy at just 11 years old. He made his Ligue 1 debut at 16 years and 32 days, becoming the third youngest player to appear in the French top flight. Over three seasons at Nice, he featured in 54 matches and scored 11 goals before moving to Saint-Étienne in 2015.

At Saint-Etienne, Maupay played 29 matches in his first season, contributing five goals and two assists, while also making his European debut in the UEFA Europa League. He spent the following campaign on loan at Stade Brestois in Ligue 2, netting 13 goals in 32 appearances.

Maupay moved to England at 21, joining Brentford in the Championship. Over two seasons, he scored 41 goals in 95 matches, earning a Premier League transfer to Brighton and Hove Albion in 2019. At Brighton, he consistently featured in the league, scoring double-digit goals across three seasons before moving to Everton in 2022. Maupay scored one goal in 29 appearances for the Toffees and spent part of the following season back on loan at Brentford, scoring eight times in 34 matches.

Returning to France in 2024, Maupay joined Marseille, where he played 28 matches and scored six goals. Despite his permanent move to OM, he fell out of favour this season, featuring only three times. Sevilla acted quickly to bring in the striker during the winter transfer window, with registration formalities pending due to a long-term injury to Marcos do Nascimento Teixeira, whom the club must deregister to complete Maupay's registration.

Maupay has also represented France at all youth levels up to under-21, and Sevilla will hope his experience across Ligue 1 and the Premier League can boost their attacking options for the remainder of the season.
