Newcastle inflict second consecutive Premier League defeat on Tottenham

Spurs came into their first home league encounter of the campaign on the back of a 3-0 trouncing at Brentford while the Magpies were unlucky to concede late in a 2-2 draw at home against Liverpool last week.

Tottenham certainly came into the season with optimism after spending big in the transfer market ahead of the season as they look to better their 17th place of the last campaign.

The hosts though continuedc to lack a cutting edge upfront despite handing a debut to new signing Omar Marmoush, who arrived from Manchester City only a few days ago, while winger Savio missed out through injury.

Newcastle goalkeeper Lucas Hornicek was busy in the opening half, making saves from Mathys Tel and Jan Paul van Hecke to keep the game goalless.

The visitors then sniffed their opportunity and pounced just after the hour mark as Elanga swivelled in the area before finishing to put Newcastle ahead in the contest.

DR Congo forward Wissa then doubled Newcastle's lead with 20 minutes remaining, collecting Nick Woltemade's header with his back to goal before hooking the ball over his head into the net.

Spurs will look to get their first league win of the season when they travel Nottingham Forest next week while Newcastle are at home to Bournemouth.
