Nottingham Forest dealt survival blow as Callum Hudson-Odoi ruled out for rest of season

The 25-year-old winger picked up the problem during Forest's Europa League quarter-final second-leg victory over Porto last Thursday, forcing him off during the match and sidelining him for Sunday's emphatic 4-1 Premier League win against Burnley.

Following further assessment, the club confirmed the injury was to his right quadriceps and that surgery was required. The procedure has been completed successfully, but Hudson-Odoi will now miss the remainder of the campaign and is only expected to return to full training during pre-season.

Sharing an update on social media, the former Chelsea player expressed his frustration at the timing of the setback while remaining optimistic about his recovery.

On his Instagram page, Hudson-Odoi added: "Surgery was successful but definitely not the way I wanted to end the season but with God's timing and plan hopefully I'll be back stronger and better than before. "Thank you for your continued support always and the messages, I appreciate all the love and let's get the recovery started so I can get back out there doing what I love! No Pain No Gain."

Hudson-Odoi has been an important figure for Forest this term, contributing six goals and four assists across 43 appearances in all competitions, making his absence a notable setback as the club navigates a crucial run-in both domestically and in Europe.

Forest currently sit 16th in the Premier League table on 36 points, holding a five-point cushion over the relegation zone with five matches remaining. Their schedule includes upcoming league fixtures against Sunderland, Chelsea, Newcastle United, Manchester United and Bournemouth.

Attention will also turn to their Europa League semi-final against Aston Villa, with the first leg set for April 30, as Vitor Pereira's side aim to balance survival ambitions with a potential deep run in Europe.
