Omar Berrada: Michael Carrick "earned the right" to coach Man Utd

Carrick, who stepped into the role in January, has guided United to more Premier League points than any other club since taking over. That form helped secure qualification for next season's UEFA Champions League and led to a new contract running until 2028.

Berrada spoke about his growing relationship with Carrick on the Inside Carrington podcast, explaining that the two first met during the recruitment process earlier this year.

"I had heard many good things about him, and everything has turned out to be true," Berrada said. "He's somebody who loves the club, understands the values of the club, and is a great man-manager."

He added that Carrick's impact on the dressing room has been clear, with players responding positively to his calm but driven approach.

"I think he's earned the right to continue leading the team over the next two years or more," Berrada said. "He is very calm but also very driven, and I'm sure he will do everything he can to make sure we are successful."

The United chief also stressed that the decision was based on suitability for the squad and long-term planning, rather than any fixed idea of what a Manchester United manager should look like in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, referring to legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

Since Ferguson's departure, United have worked through several managerial styles and systems, but Berrada believes Carrick fits the current direction of the club.

"When we look at the squad and what we are trying to do over the next two years, he brings the right attributes and understanding of the club," he said.
