Cape Town City frustrated by gritty Orbit College in PSL playoff
Cape Town City started their fight for survival in the Betway Premiership with a disappointing goalless draw against Orbit College.
The match began with a few surprises, particularly from the home side, as Orbit opted to bench key forward Gomolemo Khoto. Instead, they started with Siyabulela Mabele and veteran striker Letsie Koapeng, while Casric Stars fielded an experienced attack led by Kermit Erasmus, Thabang Rakwena, and Decide Chauke.
Orbit nearly took an early lead when Mabele capitalised on a loose ball in the opening minutes and unleashed a powerful effort that was parried away by Casric goalkeeper Emile Lako Wendeu.
Both teams showed attacking intent in the first half, creating a lively contest. Casric came close midway through the opening period when Thabang Semache's long-range effort forced a strong save from Sekhoane Moerane. The Orbit shot-stopper was called upon again before halftime, this time to tip a precise header from Simon Fils Ndou Moukete over the crossbar.
Looking to shift momentum, Orbit made two key changes at the break, bringing on Khoto for Koapeng and Reuben Kgabane in place of Erasmus. However, the second half proved to be far less eventful, with both defences settling into a more cautious, compact shape.
As the match wore on, opportunities became scarce. Casric introduced Abbey Sesane late in the game in a bid to snatch a winner, but neither side could find the finishing touch.
The result leaves both teams with a point to start their promotion campaign, with the next round of fixtures likely to play a crucial role in determining who secures a spot in the top flight. Orbit College will face Cape Town City in their next play-off clash.
