The Mswenko Boys, one of two sides promoted to the 2025/26 top-flight season alongside Durban City FC, have endured a challenging debut campaign after their fairytale rise from the Motsepe Foundation Championship. Despite a promising buildup, results in the opening rounds have fallen short of expectations.
After nine matches, Orbit College have managed just two wins, one draw, and six defeats, leaving them 13th on the Betway Premiership table — only one point clear of the relegation zone. In an effort to steady the ship, the management has turned to seasoned players who bring much-needed leadership and experience.
Mphahlele, a respected veteran with a wealth of experience from stints at Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns, is expected to add composure and stability to the team’s backline.
Lesako, also formerly with Chiefs, provides versatility and attacking flair, while Tyongwana joins with Premier Soccer League experience from his time at Chippa United.
The club has already shown ambition in the transfer market, notably securing the services of former star Monnapule Saleng on loan from Orlando Pirates earlier this season. However, results have not gone according to plan, prompting further reinforcements ahead of a demanding run of fixtures.
The Rustenburg outfit are back in action on Friday with a meeting against Richards Bay FC away from home on Friday.
With the experience of Mphahlele and company, the Mswenko Boys will be hoping to turn their fortunes around and secure their place among South Africa’s football elite beyond this season.
